Let’s talk about the dark side of this new AI arms race

Palantir and Anduril - Peter Thiel and Palmer Luckey

Palantir does not fire weapons. Anduril does not decide what reality looks like. But, together, they close the kill-chain loop.

Palantir’s role is data dominance. Its platforms (Gotham, Foundry, AIP) ingest enormous volumes of data — intelligence reports, surveillance feeds, signals data, logistics, social networks, sensor outputs, battlefield reports — and fuse them into a single operational picture. Palantir systems identify patterns, correlations, and “targets of interest” by ranking people, locations, vehicles, or behaviors according to algorithmic risk models. This dramatically narrows what humans see and consider actionable.

In simple terms: Palantir decides what matters, who matters, and what is flagged as a threat.

Anduril’s role is execution and orchestration. Its Lattice platform is a real-time battlefield operating system that connects sensors (radar, cameras, drones, towers), command interfaces, and autonomous assets. Lattice takes inputs — including target data and priorities generated by systems like Palantir — and coordinates machines that watch, track, intercept, or strike. Once parameters are approved, Lattice is designed to operate at machine speed, often far faster than continuous human deliberation.

In simple terms: Anduril decides how machines move, watch, and act.

When paired, these systems form a machine-mediated kill chain:

• Palantir defines and prioritizes targets through data analysis.

• Anduril operationalizes those targets through autonomous or semi-autonomous systems.

• Human involvement increasingly shifts from direct decision-making to supervisory approval of pre-structured options.

The danger is that lethal decisions become the output of interacting software systems, where no single human meaningfully chooses the moment of death — only the parameters that allow it.

What we thought was just sci-fi is now a dangerous reality!
